Chapter 76 Magical Crystals
William was not in a hurry to set off the next morning.
He came up with a good excuse that he needed seven days to obtain a good present to bring to Dark Night City.
As they heard it, his subordinates were not surprised, but they could not understand what items in the City of Dawn could be considered a 'good present'.
Specially produced mythril?
Was it precious to the Elven royal family when they controlled half of Blackleaf forest?
William did not explain it. He brought them deep into the forest and led them tens of kilometers east into a valley shrouded by mist. He ordered his personal guards to begin excavating.
Nobody knew why the Lord ordered the Elven guards to do such labor.
As they reached around 10 meters inside, faint rays of purple light emitted from the ground.
As soon as he saw the phenomenon, Lautner jumped into the hole and covered the light source with soil. He was still worried and stamped on the ground. He feared that the buried items would be exposed.
The other participants remained silent. They even held their breath…
"Are… Are these the m-magical crystals?" Odom swallowed hard in disbelief.
He surveyed the surroundings and found no outsiders. Only after confirming that, he slowly dug out the purple crystals that were embedded on the rocks and felt a strong magical power being emitted. The power was surging with no limit!
He recognized the crystals from ancient books.
In the final stretches of the Elven era, besides the super-powerful warriors who destroyed the Gods' continent, the magical crystals also played a part.
The Lonely Mountain empire of then was the Dwarven empire. They possessed a large number of magical crystals and made destructive magical weapons. As time elapsed, large amounts of magical crystals were used up. Hence, the crystals became very rare.
It was precisely because of this scarcity of the magical crystals, that the rebellion of the seven Dwarven princes was not successful. Without the support of the magical weapons, none of the seven Dwarven clans dared to make a move.
In the present era, magical crystals had become extremely rare consumables.
Of course, there would be magical crystals in Dark Night City. Even the three Elven clans would have them
The three Human empires and some Dwarven kingdoms would also possess the crystals. However, other power centers did not possess such powerful crystals.
Even if they had the crystals, they would not divulge the information or build large scale magical weapons.
The reason was simple.
It was the nuclear weapon of the Legendary continent!
If the kingdom did not have the necessary capability, the weapon could even be a cause of the downfall of the country!
The five tyrants of the real world were extremely cruel.
However, the top tyrants of the Gods' continent were a hundred times crueler than those five.
"It was the core material required in the creation of the magical cannons, magical airships and the sky cities of the Seraphkin. Magical… crystals?" Eric was filled with surprise. However, he had also become worried.
Lautner's mood had turned gloomy. He did not know how William discovered the crystals, and it was not a time to ask questions. He only wanted to know would the magical crystals be stored and how to prevent the discovery from being divulged.
William noticed the change in expressions of his subordinates. He knew he had been impatient this time, but he remained composed…
He could see the degree of loyalty of his subordinates!
William understood that the City of Dawn was unable to produce magical cannons at this time. He lacked the required materials, builders, blueprints and the mages.
Besides the magical cannons, William was unable to make use of any other properties of the magical crystals!
It presented a dilemma to him.
The situation of discovering the magical crystals was like a small kid discovering a voluptuous woman with long slender legs. Many lechers were hidden and were looking for a chance to steal the prize…
However, the high value and scarcity of the magical crystals made them very good candidates for a gift.
William could use these little magical crystals to create a good impression for himself.
However, bribing with such a rare treasure did not result in an intended result, most of the time .
Besides Princess Annie, giving the crystals to other people would bring out their insatiable greed instead.
William surveyed the crowd and calmly said, "What's there to be afraid of? You all are my confidantes, relatives and friends. I believe in all of you."
Eric and the rest smiled awkwardly. They were not worried about this. What bothered them was that the spies in the city were still not identified. However, Williams' words made them feel better and their affinity to the Lord increased.
William laughed complacently in his heart. Eric's loyalty jumped from 850 to 930. He had been William's most ardent supporter. Previously, his loyalty had reached 999. If William did not do things to move his subordinates, their loyalty would not remain at the peak.
William was never worried about Lautner's loyalty, and the loyalty of his Elven guards was above 950.
According to the Gods' game setting, when the affinity (loyalty) reached above 700 points, the characters would become confidantes and help to keep secrets.
They would be extremely loyal with 800 points and above.
And loyalty points above 900 meant that the characters would be willing to sacrifice their lives for their Lord!
The only exception to William's entourage was Odom!
He was the Epic NPC with the lowest loyalty of 730 points even though he was the first follower of William. It could have something to do with his status as a Dwarven prince.
But William's trust in his subordinates even boosted his loyalty to 900…
"To make the followers loyal, the Lord has to trust them. Seems like this little secret of mine has created a desired effect."
The location of the magical crystals ore was a small secret to William.
The big secrets were still held close within his heart.
William laughed again and said, "You don't have to worry. I have no plans to excavate these magical crystals on a large scale. I'm only taking some crystals as a gift. At the same time, I've shared my deepest secret with all of you."
"Thank you, my lord, for the trust in us. We'll risk our life for you." His subordinates bowed and patted their chest as a show of respect. Their eyes were filled with gratitude.
William smiled. "Good. Odom, I trust you to do a good job of supervising my personal guards while they excavate the crystals. Seven days later, return this place to its original state. It's not the time yet to divulge the discovery of the crystals with others."
"Yes, my lord." The blushing Odom grasped his Hammer of Thunder that emitted faint lightning. He was feeling excited.
It had to be explained.
After leading his race to join the City of Dawn, he was troubled every day. Odom had wanted to reveal his true identity to William.
Sometimes, he even contemplated if he could make use of the power of the City of Dawn to overthrow the Dwarven kingdom and reinstate his Lonely Mountain empire.
He was filled with regret. But in the battle of his mind, the righteous Odom gained the advantage over a calculative Odom.
"My lord, may I have a word with you?" Odom requested in a soft voice as he walked to William's side.
"A word with me? Oh!" William patted Odom's shoulders awkwardly as though he recalled something. Then he led Odom into the dense forest.
