Chapter 40 Dumb kids

In the end, it will take years for Zaos to read all the books in his house's library. So, after a couple of days, he didn't find anything related to that incident. On the other hand, his training has been proceeding fairly well, even without his father's help.

Zaos learned how to assume a defensive stance using a spear and ax by himself, and thanks to it, he heard that voice two more times informing him that he had started the path of the ax and spear. That being said, they didn't feel as comfortable the same way Zaos feels when he is holding a longsword. For the time being, studying the magic books he found in the warehouse will have to be done later since Zaos learned from his mother about the book's contents they brought from Merkin.

"It will take a while to master the contents of the book and I am already pushing my limits when I train with the longsword, any more than that and I will damage my body," Zaos thought. "Maybe I should practice with the axe and spear slowly and see what can happen, or try a new weapon…"

While Zaos was thinking about that, he heard the gates of the residence being opened. That was weird… his father said that they couldn't leave and probably also said to the guards that they shouldn't receive any visitors. But then Zaos let out a long sigh when he saw the royal guards accompanying Ameria and Drannor again. Those kids have too much free time on their hands…

"Zaos, we are going to have a party," Ameria declared.

"Good for you, Your Highness," Zaos said.

"You are coming too," Ameria said.

"… That is an order or an invitation?" Zaos frowned.

"Both," Ameria replied. "I just learned that Drannor and I were born on the same day and because of that, he never had a real birthday parent."

"I don't think that is the case, Your Highness," Zaos said. "I am one hundred percent sure Drannor's parents made something for him."

"When you have a birthday party, you can't just have family with you, that is just too pitiful," Ameria said. "You have to invite your friends too."

Zaos's head began to hurt since a five years old kid just called him pitiful. He also had a birthday party where only his parents were there… in any case, Zaos finally learned why he was never invited to Drannor's birthday party, but he couldn't care less about it at that point in time. Although that probably was a subject that would make some kids feel embarrassed, Drannor seemed pretty happy that one of his friends wanted to throw a party for him. As much as stupid that sounded, he also shared Ameria's opinion.

"Drannor's father is busy, so we will make the party at the castle," Ameria said. "I asked father to make a big party, but he said that we could only invite our friends."

Great, now even Zaos was starting to feel pitiful. He was going to a party where only three people had been invited. He sighed since his attendance had pretty much been decided without his opinion, and if he refuses, he probably will make a five-year-old kid feel depressed since it would be the same thing as declaring that he wasn't their friend.

In the end, Zaos decided to go, but he would take his magic book with him and memorize all its contents during the whole party. After all, he had more important things on his mind at the moment. Since it wasn't a formal party, all the kids went to the castle wearing whatever they wanted.

The party started at night, and the castle was strangely empty since only Zaos, Ameria, and Drannor practically had the whole place for themselves. Still, Ameria guided them to the dining room where they found a lot of food ready for them… they were all sweets, though.

"What is this?" Zaos frowned.

"You need to have sweets in a birthday party," Ameria said.

"But only sweets?" Zaos frowned.

"Hahaha, I am going to like this party better than the other," Drannor said after laughing.

Zaos facepalmed. While the king gave the permission to his spoiled daughter, Zaos didn't imagine he also gave her the permission to prepare everything. In any case, before they could start eating, Ameria decided to give her a present first.

"Since your hands always get wounded when you train, I decided to give this glove," Ameria said while she was passing a pair of gloves that were emitting a strange green glow. "This is a magic item that can heal small wounds. You should feel thankful for receiving a present from royalty."

"Thank you, Ameria," Drannor said and immediately put on the magic gloves.

Zaos sighed since both kids looked at him. In the end, they were waiting for his turn, and as much as Zaos hesitated in doing that, he also brought a present. He didn't have a single coin, but Zaos had many books. It was a fantasy story that his mother read to him many times. The protagonist was also a spear user so that Drannor would feel connected to the book.

"Thank you, Zaos," Drannor said. "But I can't read."

"Use this chance to learn it," Zaos said and then opened his own magic book to read.

"You can do that later, let's eat!" Ameria said.

While Ameria and Drannor were eating as if they had never seen food before, Zaos kept reading the book, already imagining how things would end. They were kids, and kids are dumb… they had no idea how sick they will feel later after eating sweets like that. It looked like the king had decided to let his daughter do whatever she wants and then notice that every single decision has a cost, but it didn't look like he didn't consider Drannor's stomach as well.
