Chapter 140 Result
Elmar smiled when he saw that his attack worked, but in the end, he also noticed that the tip of his weapon didn't pierce as much as he had planned. He used the same strength and speed to make his other spear pass through the whole body of a grown-up man and his full plate armor, and yet… the same attack wasn't piercing Zaos all that much. Then Elmar noticed a brown mark on Zaos's left chest. Before he could understand what that was and before he could try to attack once again, Elmar was forced to retreat with all his might when several Fire Swords appeared around Zaos and flew toward him.
The first Fire Sword flew toward him the very moment Elmar pulled his spear and blocked the attack. However, he wasn't fast enough to block or dodge the five others. In the end, Elmar protected his head, but he had to give up on his arms. The flames were causing so much damage that he was having a hard time keeping his mind thinking straight.
Elmar's soldiers suddenly appeared to protect him, and at that very moment, he saw Zaos falling on his feet. It seemed the pain really got him this time… then Elmar lost sight of him due to the soldiers, but only for a second. Soon after, all the soldiers in front of him began to burn. The formation broke while the mercenaries were screaming in pain, and thanks to it, Elmar saw Zaos once more and for the last time. Several Fire Swords flew toward him, and he used all his strength to make the spear block them and protect his head. He once again saved his head, but his arms paid the price yet again.
"HAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!" Elmar screamed in agony while his arms were melting.
Zaos finally used all his mana and didn't have enough to heal himself. Ultimately, the pain made him collapse, and the last thing he saw was Elius running toward him. All that fight only to collapse due to the blood loss and before he could confirm if the enemy was dead or not… that was truly pathetic.
Much to Zaos surprise, he woke up pretty soon. The sound of metal colliding still was echoing through the battlefield, and that made him open his eyes. Then he saw Elius' relieved expression.
"You scared me," Elius said. "Fortunately, that girl gave me this to use in case you need it."
Zaos noticed that Elius had a bottle in his hand. It was the same bottle that he had and in which was stored his mana potions. Still, the smell of that one was a bit different… After a few moments, Zaos realized that Tyra gave Elius a health potion. It was kind of surprising that she had one, but it wouldn't be weird if her grandfather and she knew how to make those.
"How are you feeling?" Elius asked when Zaos got up.
"My chest and left side still hurt like hell." Zaos replied and then noticed that the wound on his left chest still was there. It just stopped bleeding and closed a little bit. "Don't you have more of those?"
"If you have the nerve to complain, then you will be fine," Elius said. "Get up and use some potions to heal yourself. We aren't exactly safe here."
Zaos obeyed, and then he looked around. The soldiers were still fighting fiercely, but the flow of the battle was obvious in their favor. The mercenaries were slowly retreating, and then Zaos suddenly saw something on fire passing above them… the mercenaries still were using their siege weapons. Still, they weren't causing much damage since the soldiers weren't fighting exactly clustered to each other.
"You did well defeating the enemy general, but you almost died," Elius said. "I helped the commander and two other generals were defeated, and the other two decided to retreat, so the result of things on this side are pretty much decided. Still, we need to completely destroy their army and siege weapons."
"Understood," Zaos said.
There was always the chance that they could regroup with the other army and try to take the northern base, so Zaos knew that his job was to put the siege weapons on fire and make them give up on the idea. After healing himself just enough so that he could run, Zaos and Elius joined commander Ruvyn, and the traces of the calm old man were no longer there to be seen. He was covered in blood from head to toe since he liked to split rider and horses in half, but he also had a lot of wounds on his body.
"Oh? It looks like you two are still alive," commander Ruvyn said when Zaos and Elius arrived. "Is that true that you can set the siege weapons on fire instantly, kid?"
"Yes, sir," Zaos replied. "I believe so."
"Good," Commander Ruvyn said, and then he looked around. "Follow me, men! It is time to end this! Let's kill all those bastards! I forbid all of you to rest right now, follow me like your life depends on it!"
"YES, SIR!" The soldiers in the area shouted in unison.
Many soldiers had died, so many of those men lost their friends that they considered closer than brothers. Still, they roared like they could follow the commander no matter what. In the blink of an eye, hundreds of men assembled near the commander and then led them toward the enemies who still were in the area and trying to move the siege weapons. Some of those had already been taken away. Still, since the soldiers were attacking so fiercely, the mercenaries didn't have the chance to move most of them.
Thanks to the fact that he was right behind the commander, Zaos didn't have the chance to do much. The commander, his closest subordinates and Elius, easily killed the infantrymen and the cavalry that tried to get on their way, and the few attackers that came from the side ended up stomped by a horde of very angry soldiers.
