S1 Book 4 Chapter 8

It was around noontime, because Yan Si was yawning from boredom after having just tossed the testing report onto Yu Xia’s desk.

“The one from the seventh floor was confirmed to have died from a peanut allergy. The test was positive for traces of peanut butter components, but the amount was too small. It might have been because something was swallowed. The other body in the alley had tests run on the skin tissue from the self-defense injuries and under the fingernails. Also, the ring’s owner was confirmed to be the one from the sixth floor. In addition, a small amount of paint was detected from the tests on the ring.

“Next, the body from the sixth floor had scrapes that showed there had been some resistance. The test results on the wounds showed that the tissue is identical to the one from the fingernails of the body in the alley. The peanut butter from the stomach of the seventh floor victim is identical to that found on the one from the alley. Jiu Shen’s report also says that the fingerprints on the seventh floor’s doorknob match that of the body in the alley, which indicates that they had entered before. The handprints and fingerprints on the body in the alley match the body from the sixth floor. Right now, it is pretty clear that the one from the sixth floor is the most likely suspect for killing the one in the alley. However, there is no direct evidence for the one in the alley killing the one on the seventh floor, since the peanut butter could have very well been an accident.” After saying this all in one breath, Yan Si began to admire himself for his ability to completely cover all the main points despite the tongue twister.

However, it was very evident that the other two people did not admire it.

“Could I trouble you…to directly mention people’s names next time?” Li Zi Hong, who had only heard a bunch of “alley”, “sixth floor” and “seventh floor” throughout the entire thing, stared at him blankly for a full three seconds before furrowing his brows.

He had only heard one name mentioned in that entire speech, and it had belonged to one of their own people!

If that statement had been recorded and handed over to someone else as an official record, the person listening would definitely have to be a monster to understand what had been said.

But why is this extremely idle forensic investigator here to discuss the details of the cases?

He was starting to grow more and more suspicious. This isn’t even how one would do another’s work, right…

“As long as you understand, it’s fine. Who cares about all those details?” Yan Si dismissively waved his hand. Constantly speaking people’s names was pretty annoying. “You know, since humans have ears, they should be put into good use. It’s up to you to listen.”

“We’re probably the only ones that can understand.” Yu Xia quickly rained cold water down on the parade of the person that had just given the report. He quickly repeated all the information in his head one more time. “So now we can pretty much say for certain that Xie Jun Wei killed Xu Ru Xian, but the perpetrator for Lai Qi Lin’s murder still cannot be determined. Moreover, the male’s reason for killing isn’t clarified yet either.”

Yan Si glanced at him and nodded before continuing, “Also, some call records were checked. Xu Ru Xian’s last call was to Lai Qi Lin, while Lai Qi Lin’s last call was to Xie Jun Wei. All were not long before the incidents occurred.”

Yu Xia narrowed his eyes at the information in his hands and immediately combined the questionable parts. “In other words, it’s very possible that after the females’ conflict, Xu Ru Xian left and Xie Jun Wei chased after her. Then something else may have happened, and she ended up getting murdered.” The scene of the crime really had not seemed like it had belonged to a premeditated murder. It was possible that after Xie Jun Wei killed her, he had made a mess to make it look more like a robbery.

Although they already knew the outline of the cases, there were still many details in between that had disappeared with the deaths. Their only hope was the person lying in the ICU at the hospital.

Sometimes, he really hated picking up these kinds of cases.

He would have to wait for the remaining person to regain consciousness to get the details out. But the person could very possibly never awaken again. Everything was up to luck and whether or not the heavens would help out.

“So annoying…” Yan Si sat down on the table and spoke up. “But I have a three day break starting from tomorrow, so I hope you two continue to work hard.” If he didn’t rest soon, the next fatal incident would be his, as the legendary “death from overwork” was looming over him.

He was suddenly a bit happy that he could go on break. After coming back, he could directly hear the results of the closed case without actually playing along. That was the best scenario.

The two people still working overtime immediately turned to look at him.

“Don’t miss me too much!” Yan Si quipped another infuriating comment.

“If you don’t want my fist to miss you too much, you should let me hit you as much as three days’ worth now. What do you think?” Yu Xia began to crack his knuckles as the topic was interrupted and diverted towards another direction. He had a strange smirk on his face.

Li Zi Hong coughed and turned away.

“Oi, oi! Don’t just pretend you didn’t see anything!” He turned his face away! He actually is pretending that he didn’t see me getting beaten up! I’m going to report that the prosecutor covered up for his colleague, who covered up for him!

“One should hold responsibility for their own actions…” Li Zi Hong stated as he began to gather his things and stood up to leave. Yes, he still had a lot of things to do. Time is of the essence, time is of the essence!

“Heartless!”

***

Yu Yin stood outside in the hallway and peered through the transparent glass window to look at the frozen corpse that had been pulled out.

It was afternoon. Lai Qi Lin’s family had come to begin the identity verification process, and the body was pushed back into the freezers. The body that had still been warm when it had been taken out of its home was now stiffly lying inside.

Sometimes, seeing these things made him feel like living in this world didn’t have any particularly meaning. Either way, if the population was so large that nearly everyone had to hear the report of a “new person” being pushed to this kind of place, then the human system of values would start to shift. Life would come around full circle and continue repeating these kinds of things.

Here was the same, there was the same.

Yu was shrinking back against the wall next to him, occasionally seeming to be avoiding something. However, Yu Yin could not see what he was dodging.

“Is that thing over there?” Yu Yin was distracted by the person next to him. After seeing him try to avoid something two or three times, he was sure that Yu was dodging something, and so Yu Yin asked directly.

Yu show him a grieving look and directly pushed him forwards so that he could hide behind Yu Yin.

“Oi, oi, it’s not like I can always see them.” Even if he pushed him in front, it wouldn’t be of any use. That thing would at most just pass through. Yu Yin tilted his head back to look at the person behind him. “I wanted to ask you, were you like that before, or only just recently?” He hadn’t forgotten about how this guy seemed to always touch strange things; he had simply not gotten the chance to ask about it until now.

Yu took out his phone and typed a word on it. “Before.”

“Since you were very small?”

This time, the other person nodded.

“What does it feel like?” Because he could only see them and not touch them, he was a bit curious.

Yu furrowed his brows and looked down at his palm, debating whether or not to give him the middle finger.

Seeing his reaction and his movements, Yu Yin knew what he wanted to do and decided to cut in before actually getting the middle finger. “Forget it.” The other person put his hand back down. It seemed like his opinion wasn’t much different from Yu Yin’s opinion of seeing.

“But you’re also really strange. People normally should be able to see and not touch. Don’t tell me it’s because your body makeup density is less than that of gas?” He felt like he’d heard before of experiments proving that ghosts had some density, but it was something he had watched ages ago and had pretty much completely forgotten about.

Yu did not respond to his question, probably because he did not know the reason why either. He went back to sticking against the wall and continued to shirk backwards.

“Ugh, this place must have tons of unclean things…” Yu Yin was starting to feel grateful for the poor condition of his “sporadic vision” today; otherwise, he would probably be the first to run out of here.

After waiting for another while, Yu Yin finally saw his dad lead the two people out. One of them was a slightly older, mid-aged woman, while the other was a slightly young girl. Apparently, they were the mother and the younger sister of the deceased.

He had been watching from the side when the two had first gone in to identify the corpse. Upon seeing that the deceased was someone they knew, they first were frozen in shock before breaking out into anguished tears. It was pretty much the same reaction everyone that came to identify corpses had.

“Please go discuss the rest of the procedure with the staff member over there.” After letting the mother-daughter pair be taken away by the other person, Yu Tong finally walked out. “Why did you suddenly run over here?”

Yu Yin scratched his head, not quite sure how to answer. “Just…passing by.”

“I do not believe that explanation in the slightest.” Yu Tong immediately rejected the response and he pushed his glasses. “Why did you purposely run over here?”

This wasn’t where he typically worked. There must have been a reason for his son to specially come all the way here.

“I…just wanted to ask where the person from yesterday was sent to…”

“Xie Jun Wei?”

“Yeah.” Yu Yin noticed the suspicious gaze pointed towards him and he coughed, hurriedly explaining, “It’s not that thing, okay? I just suddenly remembered this afternoon that I’ve seen that person before.”

Yu Tong first led them away from the chilly place, bringing them to a nearby coffee shop. He found a more quiet and remote spot and sat the two children down.

It was afternoon, and past lunchtime yet before afternoon tea time, so there were not many people in the coffee shop. After the server brought them their orders, he went to hide in the back and slack off.

After everything had been brought over and nobody could interrupt anymore, Yu Yin finally spoke up again. “He bumped into me. Back when I arrived at the alley where the incident occurred, he bumped into me. I didn’t notice earlier, but it’s definitely the same person.”

“He bumped into you?” Yu Tong narrowed his eyes as he thought of the information and notes that he had just received. “Returning to the crime scene?” Indeed, many people would often return to the crime scene to check on the situation after committing the crime.

Yu Tong had just seen what Yu Xia had brought over right before heading out this afternoon, so he quickly understood the circumstances.

“Huh? Is he the suspect for one of the cases?” Yu Yin immediately asked after hearing his father’s words.

“Xu Ru Xian, the first deceased discovered in that alley. There has already been evidence found on her body that she was attacked by Xie Jun Wei. We’re just waiting for him to wake now before we can go forwards and clarify the details of the case.” Yu Tong did not try to hide anything, having faith in his son. He gave a short general summary. “At the moment, Xu Ru Xian is the likely suspect for killing Lai Qi Lin, but we cannot find any evidence.”

“Is that so?” So they have already progressed that far?

Yu Yin thought back to what had happened in the alley while looking outside.

Yu was expressionlessly eating the sweets he had just ordered. The ice cream dripping with honey just seemed greasy.

Why hadn’t he known how much this guy liked eating sweets?

Both sides were quiet.

Yu Tong took out the folder, opening it to show a few photos. “These were brought over by her family members just now. Apparently, she might have had a dispute with Xu Ru Xian. They found some related pictures in their home, so they brought them over for us to have.”

Yu Yin took the photos and saw two females on vacation together. He had seen them both—but only after they had died. Actually, the part when they had scared him didn’t count. The two females in the photo were not bad-looking, and Lai Qi Lin could even be said to be fairly delicate and pretty. She even had a little smile on her face.

There were about five or six photos of the two girls together. Then, there was a photo of three people, with the addition of a male—Lai Qi Lin’s boyfriend.

But after the boyfriend’s addition, Xu Ru Xian’s expression seemed to have changed a bit. There were two or three photos where she was looking at the only male doing something, her gaze very unnaturally fixated on his body. However, without the male, she was happily hugging Lai Qi Lin in the photos.

“It seems like they were pretty close with each other in their personal lives.” Yu Yin flipped a photo over to look at the date, discovering that it had been taken around three months ago. Based on the dates of all the vacation photos, they had gone out around four times, with one of them including Lai Qi Lin’s boyfriend.

“Mm, but neither their colleagues nor family members could say anything about this, which is a bit strange…Lai Qi Lin’s family members only knew that she had such a friend. After the dispute, they never brought up the matter, so there was nothing we could get from them either.” Yu Tong, who had just interrogated them earlier, let out a sigh.

“But based on the photos, it might be that Xu Ru Xian also likes the male? She’s always staring at him. But then why would she be killed by him…” Yu Yin frowned as he thought about it. This can’t be one of those “murders for love” cases, right?

“That we don’t know.” Yu Tong wryly smiled in response, as he was just as baffled. He took the photos back and carefully put them away. After all, they were not related to these people, so it was impossible to know for sure what had happened. All they could do was keep searching for clues and slowly piece them together until all the hidden matters were completely revealed.

After watching his father put the things away, Yu Yin suddenly blurted out without knowing why, “Dad, could you lend me one of their photos?” As soon as he said this, he was somewhat stunned. The words had left his mouth without going to his brain, which made him a bit surprised at himself.

Yu Tong was just as surprised. He looked at Yu Yin and asked, “What do you want to do?” He had a vague feeling that it wasn’t for anything good, so he figured he should ask first.

“…Honestly speaking, I don’t know either. It was as if the heavens enlightened me with that insight just now, wanting me to ask you to borrow the photo.” Even he was bewildered. What would he do with the borrowed photo?

Yu Tong was quiet for a moment.

Yu, who was eating ice on the side, began to cough quietly, having slightly choked on it.

“Mm…um, Ah Yin, although I know you have some ability in that field, I don’t really want you to go down any strange paths.” After tactfully summing up his thoughts, Yu Tong suddenly felt as if he was father that had not talked to his child in a very long time.

“Don’t worry, I don’t have any interest in practicing Daoism and attaining enlightenment, nor do I have any plans to become a lackey of a god after graduating.” Yu Yin rolled his eyes. Before his dear father could start giving him sincere and honest guidance on how to progress through life, he first clarified, “But I really do want to borrow the photo. One is enough. If it does end up coming into use, I’ll let you know.”

Truthfully, he didn’t know how it could be of any use.

After studying Yu Yin for a while, Yu Tong reopened the folder. “Alright, but I can only lend you one since it counts as important evidence. So don’t let your uncle know, and take good care of that photo so that you don’t get into any trouble.”

“Of course.”

Yu Yin looked through the pile of photos and took one of the few with the two people together.

Actually, he knew this wasn’t a proper thing to do. If his dad was found out to have lent out a piece of evidence like that, he would definitely be punished. However, for some reason, Yu Yin felt like he just had to borrow it.

He just felt like something was wrong with the photo, but he couldn’t place it in words either. It was clearly just a photo of the two of them intimately hugging each other…

“Then we’ll leave it at that for now. I still have other things to do. Your uncle and I might not get home until very late. Make sure you two don’t run around when you go out to eat dinner, and lock the door properly, got it?” Yu Tong stood up after and after dumping a bunch of instructions, picked up the check and said, “If something happens, just give us a call…”

“Alright, I know. I’m an adult, I can take care of this guy.” Yu Yin interrupted the other’s long-winded speech and smiled. “Hurry up and go back to your work.”

Yu Tong studied his son for a bit and sighed. “It’s because you’re at home that I have to tell you all this. I’m not really worried about Xiao Yu at all.”

Why was his son as uncontrollable as a wild horse? Yu Yin was clearly his child, yet they didn’t seem to be very similar to each other?

“…Oi.”

That’s enough.

***

“What are you looking at?”

After grabbing the documents, Yu Xia was just about to head out. However, when he passed by his brother’s office area, rather than seeing the usual Yu Tong, he instead saw Jiu Shen—who should have been elsewhere—using his brother’s computer.

Jiu Shen raised his head to look at Yu Xia. His face was very close to the monitor as he had been closely scrutinising the enlarged photo on it. “Ah Tong said that he thinks there is an issue with these photos, so he asked me to make a copy…but from what I can tell, the photos are from the same alley as that fatal incident that we took pictures of last time. However, his photos are too dark, so I wanted to borrow his computer and try to copy from there.” Fortunately, Yu Tong’s computer had simple image processing software. Otherwise, he probably would have had to bring the photos back.

“The place from last time?” Yu Xia narrowed his eyes.

What was Yu Tong doing over there?

“Mm, it looks like the junk at the end of the alley. What did he take pictures of that for…” Even after brightening the first photo so that the objects inside could be clearly seen, Jiu Shen was still puzzled.

“Wait, don’t move!” Yu Xia noticed something fishy about a certain spot. Thus, he immediately swatted Jiu Shen’s head off to one side as he continued to focus his gaze on the computer.

“What’s wrong?” After crying out on pain after being shoved aside and nearly pulling his neck, Jiu Shen freed himself from the evil hand and returned his focus onto the screen.

After studying the computer for a while, Yu Xia furrowed his brows. “Pull up the photos we took that day. I had a few with the end of the alley too.”

Jiu Shen quickly connected Yu Tong’s computer to the database and pulled up the photos. However, he had absolutely no idea what was wrong with them.

The photos from the first time had been quite a bit clearer. It was still of that pile of junk that was strewn all over the place with a ton of garbage.

“This one.” Yu Xia swiftly surveyed the photos and pointed out a specific one.

Jiu Shen studied it for a while, but still could not spot anything off about it.

The photo was taken of the ground, with that pile of trash off on one side. There was also an army of ants on the ground, swarming next to the junk pile.

“There’s probably an ant’s den inside…ack!”

Yu Xia directly tossed his fist down on the computer user’s head and shot him a glare. He then used his finger to point at a spot next to the ants in the photo on the screen. “Here. And the photos that Tong took have the same thing.” He was so close to the screen earlier, yet he didn’t notice such an unnatural scene.

Jiu Shen cradled his head while holding back his tears as he carefully looked at the spot Yu Xia was pointing to.

It was hidden in that huge amount of trash surrounded by the ants, unnoticeable if not looking carefully.

There was a corner of a ziploc bag peeking through. The part captured in the photo was only about a centimeter long, but it was enough for them to tell that this ziploc bag was new, not part of the trash that had been piled there for many years.

Similarly, the corner of the bag had been captured in Yu Tong’s photos as well.

“Weird, why didn’t we discover that back then?” Jiu Shen was puzzled. They had definitely inspected every area of the alley that day. Why hadn’t they noticed this corner?

“Was probably covered by the ants.” Because of the powdered sugar and the corpse, Yu Xia recalled that there had been a ton of ants that day, so it was possible they had hidden the area without them noticing.

“Ants wouldn’t normally bite through bags, right…” Could they be that hungry?

“So that means there’s new food in the bag.” Yu Xia immediately thought of a possibility. He tossed the documents on the desk and said, “I’m going to head over there right now. You re-check all the photos.”

Ignoring Jiu Shen’s anguished cry, Yu Xia quickly charged out.

If, if it really is what I’m thinking, then—

After watching his boss race out like the wind, the despairing Jiu Shen went back to looking at the photos on the screen. He had a depressing feeling that he would probably have to work overtime again, without going home and sleeping.

I won’t ever bring up a case in front of Boss again…

But why didn’t the digital analysis group responsible for these photos notice this issue last time? Although it’s definitely hard to spot, they should typically be able to point out anything strange like this.

Then, as he was carefully sorting through the files, he accidentally pulled up that paranormal photo again.

Jiu Shen nearly jumped straight out of his skin and immediately turned off the screen. Then, after taking a few deep breaths, he gathered the courage to turn it back on. After all, that photo also contained the pile of junk.

He could only stare blankly at the photo that reappeared.

It was the same paranormal photo. But from what he could remember, there should have only been half a face in that photo the last time he saw it…but now, what was before him was…

Why is it an entire face?

Jiu Shen gulped as he looked at the blurry, white lower half of the face. Unlike last time, even the shoulder region was visible. It was no longer peeping at them, but instead seemed as seemed about to crawl out. Its inhuman gaze was maliciously glaring down at Yu Xia.

Frightened by his own thoughts, Jiu Shen instantly leapt up from his seat to frantically pull out his phone and dial the person that had just left.

He had a very bad feeling.

Maybe that thing doesn’t want us to get that bag at all.

The phone did not connect, instead transferring straight to voicemail.

“Boss! Boss, hurry up and come back, don’t go! Alright? If you hear this, call me back!” After shouting into the line, Jiu Shen felt it wasn’t enough. His boss was a spiritual block; there was no way he would come running back just because of a message. Most likely, he would just come back and yell at him after going on ahead anyways.

What now?

In that instant, Jiu Shen thought of another person. He immediately ended the call to dial another number.

This time, the other end picked up quickly. There were no sounds in the background; they seemed to be in a room. “Ah Yin, please help and quickly head over to the alley where the fatal incident was…don’t question it! Just head over immediately, hurry!”

Perhaps because the other person sensed there was something wrong, he did not continue asking and instead directly hung up.

Jiu Shen stared down at the now silent phone, trembling as he subconsciously glanced at the computer monitor again.

It would have been better had he not looked. It nearly scared his soul away.

“Holy…!”

Why me again!

Don’t they typically say that it’s better to burn any paranormal photos? What am I supposed to do now then? Burn the device? Do I have to burn the entire computer?

Burning it would be better than getting cursed!

“Oi! Jiu Shen, did you burn out all your brain cells?”

A few seconds later, the other people in the area noticed that someone was trying to smash the computer. They quickly charged over to try to stop the suddenly insane investigation officer.

“Jiu Shen, stop this instant! Smashing Ah Tong’s computer is the same as stepping on Boss’s tail!”

“If you want to smash something, go smash someone else’s; you’ll at least be able to live that way!”

“Is that the issue here?”

“Just stop first!”

The entire administrative department broke out in chaos.

Nobody noticed the computer monitor flicker as the white face on the screen slowly revealed a sinister smile—

***

After hanging up, Yu Yin gave up on his original plan of finishing the other half of the snacks that he and Yu had just ordered at a coffee shop.

The person sitting across from him looked up with his violet eyes.

“There seems to be something wrong with Jiu Shen-Gē. Let’s head over to the alley where the incident was first and see.” For something to make Jiu Shen that panicked, it must be very serious. Thus, Yu Yin took out his wallet and quickly walked over to pay at the counter.

Seeing his actions, Yu did not waste any time and ran over to follow.

It was afternoon at the moment; it would not be long until the sky would begin to darken.

Recalling how anxious the other party had been on the phone, Yu Yin didn’t hesitate and at very high speed, crossed the somewhat far distance and reached the scene of the first case.

Just like when he had first arrived there, the surroundings were extremely quiet.

He could not really see the end of the gloomy alley.

As soon as he arrived, Yu Yin felt something wrong with the air. He hadn’t even felt such strong yin here last time, yet it seemed like the temperature had even dropped now.

But he could not see anything at all.

“Weird…is it the sporadic vision?” He could clearly see that crouching woman at the end of the alley the last two times he had been here. Yet for some unknown reason, Yu Yin had felt like he’d been unable to see those kinds of things starting from this morning.

He hadn’t even been able to see them in the corpse room earlier, which had the strongest possible yin.

Why?

Yu slowly jumped off the motorbike and took off his helmet. After turning his head and listening a bit, he tugged at Yu Yin’s arm.

Yu Yin turned to follow his gaze and saw another motorbike had stopped nearby. The other person was also looking at them, and without waiting for them to speak up, shouted out first.

“Ah Yin! Didn’t I tell you guys not to randomly walk around these kinds of places?!” Yu Xia tossed his helmet, having also just arrived. He parked his bike and before he had even taken off his windbreaker, jumped off and began to shout angrily.

“Ah…we were just passing, just passing by, that’s all.” It’s probably best I don’t mention it was Jiu Shen that called us here. Yu Yin laughed weakly and continued, “This place is on the way home. It’s a complete coincidence, don’t get so angry. Anyways, what did you come here for, Uncle?”

He had a feeling that Jiu Shen had probably asked him to come here in order to stop his uncle, but he had no idea why the other person had been so frantic.

Yu Xia had no desire to waste any time beating around the bush. He rolled his eyes at Yu Yin and tugged at his hair. “Forgot something and came here to grab it.”

“Ah?” No matter where I look, I don’t think there is anything in this alley?

“Who cares, it’s not like I need to report what I do to you!” Yu Xia barked out in annoyance and without hesitation, began to walk towards the place where he had nearly been hit by a brick last time.

In that moment, Yu Yin had the hair-raising gurgling sound.

The abnormal choking sound that sounded like a frog.

That thing is still there!

Yu Yin looked around but did not notice anything strange.

Why won’t it work when I need it?

The sound gradually grew louder as it began to echo throughout the entire alley.

Before he even said anything, Yu suddenly began to move. He immediately ran inside the alley. Yu Yin looked in the same direction and saw Yu Xia’s footsteps waver, then completely stop inside the alley.

“Uncle?” Yu Yin ran after as well and noticed his uncle clutching his injured ear. “What’s wrong?” He looked over at Yu, who had arrived a step earlier than him and was helping to support his uncle.

Yu shook his head, at loss on what to do.

“Damn!” Yu Xia released his grip and furrowed his brows.

“Uncle, your ear is bleeding.” When Yu Yin saw the traces of blood on his uncle’s palm and ear, he was a bit scared.

The slightly black, originally small scratch seemed to have split open and was bleeding non-stop. “It’s really serious! We need to go to the hospital first!” He watched the area near the wound start to darken, the color spreading along the capillaries in the skin towards the head.

“Wait, I’ll leave after grabbing the ziploc bag.” Although Yu Xia was starting to feel a bit lightheaded, he was still persistent on grabbing the bag first.

“What ziploc bag?”

“There’s a small ziploc bag under the right side of the garbage pile.”

Yu Yin turned towards the person next to him. “Yu, you guys get out of here first. I’ll go over and grab it.”

Yu nodded. But as he stretched his arms out to begin pulling Yu Xia out, the violet eyes on his originally expressionless face abruptly widened to show shock as he completely froze, his hand still suspended in mid-air.

Yu Yin immediately sensed something was wrong. Just by Yu’s appearance, he could guess that Yu had touched something.

There’s something next to Uncle!

The instant this thought flashed through his brain, Yu Yin suddenly saw a white thing in the space between him and his uncle. It carried an extremely horrible stench of a corpse, and it was making gurgling sounds almost right next to his uncle’s ear.

The woman in front of him turned to look in Yu Yin’s direction.
