S1 Book 5 Chapter 3
Just as Yu Yin walked out of the school’s front gates, he happened to bump into the two currently parking.
This drinks shop near the school that he had chosen was slightly more expensive, so there were typically not many people there during class time. In general, it could be called a good location to discuss matters.
After greeting each other, they entered the drinks shop and sat down at a table in a more remote area. Yan Si passed their orders over to the server before starting their official discussion.
He passed a few photos over to Yu Yin.
“These are…?” Yu Yin gave a questioning look at the two people that had come looking for him urgently out of the blue. He then began to study the photos on the table.
“Do you know where this is?” Li Zi Hong asked in reply while carefully checking his expression for any unusual signs.
Yan Si, who was sitting next to him, obviously knew what his intent was. However, Yan Si did not have the authority to intervene in this matter, so he just obediently sat there as Onlooker A.
After looking at the photos in more detail, Yu Yin quickly recognised that the photos were of the residence on the fourth floor of that building. There were quite a few of them, maybe a dozen or so photos in total. But after going through them all, he immediately noticed that they had been taken at two different times. One of these periods was while the wallpaper was still intact, before having been touched.
“These are the photos taken from after I accepted the case, and these are the copies of the photos from the initial case three years ago. I wanted to ask you to look at these two specifically.” Li Zi Hong pulled out two photos that had been magnified specially and placed them on the table.
The second Yu Yin looked down at them, he felt his heart seem to skip a beat.
The two photos were of the same location, the same object. He could see the exact same drawer of the little shrine table. The only difference aside from the time and date was that one photo was missing “something”.
The photo that had been retaken a few days ago was missing a pack of incense.
Yu Yin tried his best to recall that day they had entered the fourth floor residence. There had definitely been half a pack of incense in the little shrine table’s drawer. He suddenly thought of something and raised his head to look at the two sitting across from him. “So when you guys went back in to take pictures, the incense had disappeared?” There had to be a reason for them coming to look for him in private. The ones that had entered and exited that place the most back then were him and Xiao Yu.
But why would he grab a dead person’s incense for no reason? Xiao Yu probably didn’t have any reason to grab it either…of course, his uncle would be the last person to touch such a thing. But they had been the first ones to go inside there.
“Went back in? Meaning that when you three first walked in, the incense was still there?” Li Zi Hong immediately questioned in response when he heard the implication in Yu Yin’s words.
“Mm…I did see it. But we didn’t touch anything inside. At least, I know not to touch anything randomly, and Yu was with me the entire time so he probably couldn’t have taken it. If he had, I should have noticed it. Could it have been taken away by someone else after us?” Yu Yin stared at the half bag of incense in the photo. He couldn’t understand why anyone would take such a thing. Even if the economy was in a slump right now, what could taking half a bag of incense possibly do? If anything, they should take something a bit more valuable. The house probably had quite a few things that could’ve been stolen and sold off, like electronics and stuff. It’s just a question of what would happen to something stolen from a haunted house.
Yan Si sipped his drink from his straw, completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere as an unrelated person. He simply went ahead and ordered a tower of ice cream, which made his colleague sitting next to him shoot a supercilious look at him.
Li Zi Hong could not be bothered to bicker with the guy eating a tower of ice cream next to him – he could tell how sweet it had to be just from its appearance. Rather than tormenting his own mental health, he decided to shift his focus back onto Yu Yin as he stated, “Let me phrase it this way…if you look at the photos, there is a rectangular shaped mark on the drawer after the incense was taken away. That is because of the dust inside. But aside from that mark, there were no fingerprints – in fact, we could not even find any traces of traces of it having been moved inside.” He paused for a moment before pointing at the photo and seriously continuing, “A typical thief would not use such a special method to take something.”
After hearing these words, Yu Yin studied the photos once more. Indeed, the new photos had a rectangular shaped mark left behind. Based on his experience, he would have directly reached out and grabbed the packet of incense if he had wanted to take it. Theoretically, that meant there would be traces left behind from his hand touching it. But in this case, no such thing could be found. In order to not leave behind any marks…the person would have to use their fingertips to pinch the bag out, as well as take care to not touch anything else. It was also possible for one to do such a thing while wearing gloves.
“Fortunately, that place has not been cleaned by anyone for a very long time, so quite a bit of dust has accumulated. The investigators have analysed all the footprints inside. Aside from the few times you have said you entered, we only found two types of footprints near the shrine table. One belonged to you, while the other belonged to Shaodi Yu. The footprints belonging to Officer Yu and student Fang were not exactly close to the shrine table. But after eliminating the investigators, there was no third person that had been near it.” After Li Zi Hong finished reading the results of his report, he eyed the other person to monitor his expression as he continued, “With these circumstances, there are only two possible explanations.”
“…If neither Yu nor I took it, then someone else walked around in our footprints to take it away. Moreover, his shoes would have to be identical to ours for it to be undetectable by the investigators.” What a thorough thief. If such thieves really exist in this world, Taiwan’s theft crime rate would definitely be crazy high. Yu Yin felt a headache coming on. Actually, he had a third answer too: that a fellow ghost had pranked them.
“After my previous roommate discovered this, he wanted to come here first to ask you for your opinion.” Yan Si took a scoop from his ice cream tower and cheerfully said to the person whose head felt on the verge of exploding, “Student that was ganged up on, do you have any thoughts?”
Yu Yin stared at the two people who had purposely come all this way just to look for him. Obviously, he knew that it was because they were considering their friendship with him that they had privately come to tell him all this. Otherwise, they would not risk the punishment for telling him such a thing, and simply continue their work per the usual procedures. “Is there something wrong with that incense?”
“Currently, it doesn’t seem like it, but since the item is already gone, all we can see from the photo is an ordinary packet of incense.”
Yu Yi nodded. He wrapped his hands around his head to think as he said, “Can you give me some time? I’ll go ask Xiao Yu if this matter has anything to do with him.” Actually, he had a vague feeling that something wasn’t quite right, but he could not put his finger on it. There had definitely been an issue during the period they had been in that building, but he could not recall what at the moment.
He was certain that something had happened while they were on the fourth floor, but he had no memory of it. All he could think of were those ghosts constantly looking to wrap him into trouble, and he really did not want to go back to the building. His luck was not as strong as the two people in front of him and could very easily fall to his doom.
“Do you want to know about Shaodi Yu’s situation?” Li Zi Hong suddenly brought up after staying silent for a while. Yan Si seemed to want to say something at this point, but Li Zi Hong stopped him.
“I know that his father killed his entire family and the friends that had been visiting, and that they all had reactions to drugs. Dad told me the general idea before. The tragedy was likely a result of drug addiction.” He was not really sure of what the drugs were, but he had frequently heard of people murdering others due to hallucinations after taking drugs, so he did not find this strange.
Li Zi Hong nodded. “Shaodi Yu…was originally proficient in four languages.” He saw Yu Yin’s eyes widen and continued onwards. “It wasn’t written in any of the data files, but we recently visited his previous school and received testimonies from his teachers and classmates to confirm that this was true. Aside from English, he also understands Japanese, Korean, and French. These are all languages that are very easy to buy books on in the market. While searching his home, we also found a large amount of these language books, both normal books and dictionaries. At first, we assumed that they belonged to his older siblings. The analysis group just recently tested them and discovered that the only fingerprints on these books belonged to Shaodi Yu alone; nobody else in his family had touched them.”
“Wait a minute, wait a minute.” As Yan Si was listening, he was starting to grow more and more incredulous, and he interrupted his former roommate’s words. “You mean to say that he managed to become ‘proficient’ in these languages just from reading books?” Isn’t that too godly?
“That is correct. According to Officer Yu, he tested Shaodi Yu and confirmed that he had taught himself to a ‘proficient’ level. Although unsure whether this includes oral conversation, Shaodi Yu definitely has no problems with the written languages.” Li Zi Hong took out a notepad and looked through the notes written inside. “Officer Yu had him translate a large amount of books, with several languages mixed in, and discovered that he made nearly zero mistakes. In addition, he had even memorised quite a few university-level vocabulary words and had pretty much reached the advanced level of a professional translator. We suspect that he is extremely talented in language, but he does not show it. It seems as if he wants to disconnect his personal matters away from the police and others, so that they will not find out.”
As Yu Yin listened to this, he felt his body grow cold.
Actually, he had never really understood this person called Shaodi Yu. Now that he heard these words coming from another person, he came to a sudden realisation that Shaodi Yu was truly a complete stranger to him and was guarding himself against all those that tried to approach him.
How many people in this world could continue planning their own life calmly after their entire family was massacred?
Yet he had not shown any glaring abnormalities.
“Holy crap, that’s so awesome. If we ever have questions with anything, we can ask him to guide us a bit.” Yan Si glanced over at his former roommate, whose expression had never changed, inwardly scheming something.
Yu Yin paused, and suddenly recalled the former school that Li Zi Hong had just brought up. Then his thoughts turned to the forum post that Xiao Yu’s classmate had published.
For some reason, he felt like he could find that person.
***
After parting ways with Yan Si and Li Zi Hong in front of the shop, Yu Yin did not head straight back to school. He stuffed the laptop he had borrowed into his backpack and stood outside for about five minutes contemplating what his next plan of action would be. In the end, he decided to first do what he wanted to do.
He had never really thought Xiao Yu to be particularly strange this whole time. But after listening to the information Li Zi Hong had just told him, he suddenly felt as if that guy was not only just a stranger, but a somewhat terrifying stranger.
He no longer knew what he could say to Xiao Yu.
According to Li Zi Hong, these kinds of people often had very high IQs, to the point where an average person would have difficulty understanding their thoughts.
So he was starting to suspect if Xiao Yu following him around him everywhere was just an act, a way of pretending so that he could live with their family.
“Ahhh – so frustrating!”
He scratched his head and crouched down in place. Yu Yin had never been good at pondering such things. Ignoring the strange look from the owner of the drinks shop, he held his head in his hands, unable to understand anything.
Just then, he noticed that a blurry shadow on his right side had materialised at some point. He subconsciously glanced over in that direction but did not see anything there.
Baffled, Yu Yin stood up. Then, he saw a girl’s figure not too far away from him. However, he could not see her clearly, just the faint image of a silhouette.
I bumped into a ghost in broad daylight again!
Yu Yin furiously concluded almost instantly.
What exactly is going on today? If it wants to come, might as well make itself completely visible. Being scared once is still better than constantly tormenting my mind by pretending it never existed. This is just too painful.
But when it came down to it, his luck recently was just terrible. He decided to not go looking for trouble anymore – after all, didn’t something go wrong every time he tried to meddle? While thinking this, he purposely turned to head in the opposite direction of the shadow. But before he had even walked a few steps, it seemed to have locked onto him and suddenly crashed into his back, nearly causing him to fall down onto all fours like a frog on the asphalt road.
“What are you doing!” He immediately spun around to curse out, but instead saw a high school girl standing there. She wore the uniform from the school across, and her expression was panicked as she kept looking behind her, as if something was chasing behind.
The moment their gazes met, he noticed the girl’s clothing was covered in dirt and grass. Because there was water everywhere from the rain today, her body was also a bit wet. She seemed to be in a pretty miserable state; moreover, he noticed that she was not carrying a schoolbag. Instead, she was holding a long, black bag that maybe around sixty centimeters long, nothing like a typical backpack.
“So-sorry…I…” The girl stammered for a long while, unable to speak, an extremely panicked expression on her face.
“Wait, put this jacket on first.” Seeing that her uniform was already half see-through, Yu Yin felt awkwardly took off the thin jacket he was wearing and draped it over her.
The girl swallowed hard and quickly put the jacket on. She then raised her head to look at him. The instant they locked eyes, Yu Yin read the shock and some kind of astonishment that quickly flashed through hers. Then, she seemed to have quickly come to some decision. In the next second, she stuffed the black bag into his hands and said, “Keep this in your home for now. Please, please I beg of you guys…to take good care of ‘it’…”
After saying this, the girl seemed to catch sight of something and burst into a run like a small, frightened animal.
“Hey! This is yours—”
“I know who you are! I’ll take it back later!”
With that, the girl quickly disappeared off to the other end of the road.
Yu Yin lifted up the bag that was actually slightly hefty. He stood where he had been abandoned, his mind filled with various questions. He wasn’t narcissistic, and obviously knew that it wasn’t possible for all the girls in the area to know his name and phone number. The other person was a stranger, so there should be no reason for her to know who he was.
And she definitely said “your home” and “you guys”…
Yu Yin stood there contemplating these questions for a while. After a few minutes, he confirmed that the girl seemed to really not have any plans to come back and retrieve her belonging, so he picked up the bag and began to head towards the parking lot. He would have to go look for his dad later to report the lost object…Wait, there can’t be a bomb in here, right?
He hurriedly held it up to his face, but did not hear the sound of a timer, nor did he smell the scent of gunpowder, which calmed him down a bit. He was really too tense these days. For all he knew, there might just be fruits or a bunch of radishes and guavas inside or something. That wouldn’t be too strange, since high school students need to keep their nutrition up…
After cheering himself up, Yu Yin turned to look in the direction where the girl had disappeared off to. For some reason, the blurry silhouette just happened to materialise in that same spot.
He could vaguely tell that it belonged to that of a girl as well.
What does that mean?
“Fuck! Don’t just block the middle of the road!”
Yu Yin was suddenly interrupted from the middle his thoughts by the swearing. He turned to see that there were actually a bunch of students that were clearly from the high school, skipping class in broad daylight, that had just cursed at him. Based on the fact that they were looking around for something, Yu Yin immediately connected them with the girl from earlier.
But what was this group of people looking to stir up trouble with a girl for?
“It’s not like the road belongs to you. Isn’t there still a huge space on the road for you to circle around?” Yu Yin purposely used provocative words that would infuriate the other party. As expected, they instantly shifted their focus from searching for the girl that had disappeared from the road just now to look at him instead. “If you brats can’t go to class and decide to skip instead, why wander around here of all places?”
“Why do you care!”
The high school students took advantage of their greater numbers and quickly surrounded Yu Yin. “I’m warning you to watch yourself a bit! Or else we’ll see how you manage to walk out of here.”
Yu Yin glanced over at a group of university students that did not have class currently messing around nearby. He sneered and shot back, “Who knows which of us should be watching ourselves? You only have a few people, yet you think you can act all arrogant? Clearly you haven’t truly lived life.”
“I’m going to fucking—”
“Ah Yin, are you having some difficulties?” Just as the high school students were about to make their move, the university students loitering about nearby came over. There were around eight of them, just enough people to sandwich the high school students that were trying to pick a fight. They were at least a head taller than the youths that had yet to finish going through puberty, and were a lot more threatening.
The university student leading the group had a basketball in his hands. It was obvious that he had come out searching for a cold drink after finishing their playoff. “People from across the street that have lived out their lives already, huh? And you want to go up against us now? Speak up.”
The high school students trying to pick a fight saw that they were far outnumbered, and blurted out, “Everyone should pay more attention to not bump into others on the road,” before leaving in flurried panic.
Once the little delinquents ran off, Yu Yin shifted his gaze. “Thanks, Ah Fang.”
The male named Ah Fang waved a hand. “No problem. That group of people has been getting more and more aggressive recently. They came looking to stir up trouble with a girl in our school a few days ago, and I was just wanting to bring Yi Tai with me to have a good ‘discussion’ with them. They’re only high schoolers yet they think they can fish around in our university’s territory. Even bullying others requires foresight first.”
“The same group?” Yu Yin asked his friend who was carrying the basketball.
“Yep, the same group. Their head is a brat called Big Camel. I heard that he’s recently been in and out of the police station a few times, and most of the people messing around in this area have more or less heard of him before. We need to let him know who this place belongs to, but we couldn’t find him recently. We just heard some news a few days ago that their group mostly hangs out in some abandoned houses nearby. Yi Tai was looking for some people to go over and negotiate some things later.” Ah Fang gave a general explanation, and the two by his side nodded in agreement.
Yu Yin knew that every school had to have these so-called bad juveniles, which really just meant those that fooled around outside. This university was on the more renown side, with most of the students being followers of Yi Tai. He had seen the other person a few times. Although he messed around, Yi Tai would never take the initiative to trouble normal students inside the school. At most, they would just skip class and wander around outside, playing games, racing cars, and dealing with some problems. Back when Ah Guan had gotten into trouble outside, Yi Tai had appeared to help. He could be said to be a pretty loyal fellow.
“Wait, I remember there used to be someone called Furry Dog leading the area in the high school across from us?” It took Yu Yin a while to realise something was wrong with the name he had just heard. He looked over to ask Ah Fang, who was one of Yi Tai’s people.
“They changed it last semester. Apparently the guy called Big Camel beat up Furry Dog so badly that he was nearly hospitalised. Furry Dog’s people all dispersed. What’s weird is that for some reason, Big Camel managed to gather a ton of people very quickly; he’s already absorbed all of Furry Dog’s people over there. No idea what methods he’s using.” Ah Fang shrugged. Because he knew Yu Yin pretty well, he told Yu Yin everything he knew, knowing that Yu Yin would not blab anything around. “Apparently they’re pretty fierce smokers and gamblers. Yi Tai suspects they have issues, since their gatherings seem too frequent. He plans on finding a chance to go over and find them, while also figuring out exactly what their situation is.”
“Mm, you guys should be a bit more careful. If it really looks bad, give me call. I know people that can help deal with it.” If they could get a bunch of people to appear, Yu Yin could more or less predict that both sides would break out into a fight with a single sentence.
Ah Fang patted his shoulder. “Yeah right, you would definitely bring the cops. Don’t be like that, we can definitely resolve the issue. There’s no way we’d be afraid of those brats that can’t even get their driver’s licenses. In just a few hits, they’ll instantly be sent home crying for their parents.”
“Hah, just make sure you keep your guard up.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Ah Fang laughed and ended the conversation by turning to tell the others that he wanted to go eat something cold at a nearby ice cream shop. Thus, they took their leave first.
Just as they turned around, Ah Fang swung the net carrying his basketball behind him.
In that instant, Yu Yin saw a head dripping with blood inside the net.
***
The water was running.
Yu Xia coughed hard as he repeatedly scooped up the water to gargle it in his mouth before spitting it back out.
“Are you alright?” From his earpiece, he faintly heard the voice of his companion watching outside.
Yu Xia rubbed his face hard vigorously with the water before turning off the faucet. “I’m fine. Those brats smoke way too much, and I’m just not used to it.” Or rather, he typically never smoked at all, yet in order to mingle in with them, he had been pressured to smoke four or five times before it was even noon. If he ended up with lung cancer as a result, he would never go down willingly.
“Boss, take care of yourself.” The voice had a strange tint to it as the subordinate stressed in concern, “Don’t risk your life or anything. Just don’t overdo it.”
“I know, stop nagging.”
Once the other person shut up, Yu Xia rinsed his mouth again. The strong taste of smoke still hadn’t dispersed. Staying in that place really made him feel the urge to kill someone. After realising that he was on the verge of losing control of his fists, he had used an excuse to go back to the school first. It was just a shame that he hadn’t been able to see the group’s leader; neither Ah Wang nor Yin Yin would say anything. They would just keep giving him smokes while playing poker and such.
When Yu Xia thought about how he would be spending the next few days like this, he recalled that hateful lot.
If he had known that he would draw that lot from the beginning, he would have just used a hammer to destroy the damned stick instead of snapping it half. Now that he thought about it, snapping it in half was going too easy on it.
While Yu Xia was waiting for the taste of smoke to fade, he noticed someone behind him out of the corner of his eye. When he turned around, he saw someone that should have still been inside the small house.
“Taste of smoke too intense?” Kai Lun had at some point arrived behind him with a notebook computer in his hand. The smile on his face did not reach his eyes as he said, “Personal cigarettes are always hard to get used to on the first try.” He pulled out a piece of gum from his pocket and tossed it over.
Yu Xia caught the gum, and did not turn down his goodwill, directly dumping it inside his mouth. “Since when have you been standing behind me?”
He studied the person who he had felt was a bit strange this entire time.
Throughout the entire day, he had noticed that Yin Yin showed symptoms of drug addiction, including absent-mindedness, lack of concentration, and immense mood swings. On the other hand, Ah Wang and An He had huge addictions to smoking, as those two were constantly forcing smokes onto him the entire afternoon.
And the leader that went by the name Big Camel never showed himself at all.
But this one called Kai Lun was clearly not like the others there. Yu Xia did not see him smoke much in the afternoon. Aside from a strange and silent sense of familiarity, he did not really mess around with the others either. All he did was spend the entire time on his computer, never speaking up first.
“Just arrived. I sometimes want to go to the school convenience store to buy some drinks.” Kai Lun shrugged and said, “Big Camel just called. He said he wasn’t coming to school today, so you might need to wait until tomorrow to be introduced.”
“Hmph, I don’t have much interest in him anyways.” Yu Xia feigned indifference and tossed the gum wrapped back at the other person. “It doesn’t look like you get along very well with Ah Wang and the others.”
“It’s normal, I just transferred over last semester. Big Camel’s group isn’t really good with management stuff, so the lower people treat me with some reverence.” He took out the personal cigarette from just now and held his laptop under his arms as he lit the cigarette. “This kind of smoke is pretty irritating at first. Yin Yin takes in a pretty high amount. You should try not to accept her cigarette…or any of the others. Mine is on the lighter side.”
“Your cigarettes are all different?” Yu Xia narrowed his eyes.
Kai Lun smiled faintly and snuffed the cigarette on the sink. “I’m allergic to something in the cigarettes they like. Big Camel doesn’t want his only accounting person to collapse at home, especially when he needs me to do something for him.”
“What kind of accounting?”
“Just some small business transactions.” Kai Lun yawned as he looked around. “Time to stop chatting. In any case, just don’t mingle with Yin Yin too much. She takes drugs, which makes her more susceptible to getting into trouble. If you need some cover, just head straight to me. Do you want me to bring you over to take a look around our territory?”
“No need, I’ll just look around myself.”
“OK, take your time then.”
Yu Xia watched Kai Lun leave, the feeling that something was off still impossible to get rid of. He just felt like there was a fishy part of Kai Lun, but he couldn’t put it in words either. Moreover, he had a feeling that Kai Lun looked extremely familiar from their first meeting for some reason, as if they had seen each other before. However, he couldn’t recall where. It probably wasn’t anything along the lines of him being a wanted criminal, since he had a very good memory of criminals’ photos.
Perhaps he had seen Kai Lun in the past when he had been around Ah Yin’s school?
Yu Xia shifted his gaze and immediately noticed a person walking over through the hallway.
“Xiao Yu? Didn’t I tell you to keep your distance?” He’s skipping class? He actually dares to skip class on his first day?!
Xiao Yu did not respond. Instead, he quietly stretched out his left hand. There was a relatively deep cut on his palm that was still bleeding.
“You cut your hand? Do you need to go to the nurse’s office?” Yu Xia furrowed his brows as he inspected the pretty significant injury that seemed to have been inflicted by a sharp object. He grabbed a handkerchief and swiftly pulled the other person over to the sink to wash the wound clean first, before wrapping the handkerchief around it. “How could you be so careless!”
Xiao Yu blinked in response, face expressionless as usual. He then looked down at his wrapped hand. It didn’t seem to be particularly painful, as even his brows remained smooth and unfurrowed.
Seeing that he seemed to agree to going to the nurse’s office, Yu Xia decided to go ahead and drag him in that direction. “How did you get yourself cut? Don’t tell me you were bullied…then again, nobody could possibly harm you while in class. You’re really too careless. Tong will definitely nag at you once you go home. Make sure you take better care of yourself next time.”
While Yu trotted behind the other person, he felt the urge to tell Yu Xia: “You’re also nagging right now.”
After walking for a bit, Yu Xia quickly found the nurse’s office on the first floor. He then rudely kicked the door open directly. The door was slammed into the wall behind it, shocking the people inside.
There was the school doctor, who looked to be in his fifties, and a middle-aged woman in her forties.
“His hand is injured,” Yu Xia called out bluntly as he yanked Xiao Yu inside.
After a few seconds of being in a blank daze, the woman quickly snapped out of it and walked over. “So serious, let Āyí 1 help you disinfect it first…oh wow, you have such pretty purple eyes. Contact lenses these days really seem to be made well. But make sure you don’t wear them for too long, or else you could easily get infections.”
Yu Xia eyed the volunteer tag the woman had on and swept his gaze over the entire health room. The space was decently sized. There were four beds, one of which had curtains drawn up around it. There was likely a student resting in that one. There were no other people present in the room.
“Sit here for a bit first, the doctor will help you wrap it up.” The woman walked over with a warm smile. “I’ve never seen you two before, are you new students? You can just call me Zhang-Āyí. Would either of you like a drink?”
“I’ll pass.” Yu Xia glanced over at Yu, who was obediently letting the doctor put some medicine on his wound. He then plopped straight down onto the empty seat next to him. “Are you two typically the only ones here?”
“That’s right. Because Doctor Zhang is getting older, and Āyí has a nurse’s license, I came over as a volunteer to help out. Otherwise, Doctor would be too busy by himself. Why do you ask?” The woman’s smile remained unchanged as she took out a bottle of Yakult drink from the fridge and placed it in Yu Xia’s hands.
Yu Xia glared hatefully at the Yakult. It was the kind that was often left behind in lunchboxes. For a second, Yu Xia had the urge to chuck it straight at the other’s face…
About a dozen or so minutes later, Yu finally ra
